Deputy Director, Southern California Region

Deputy Director, Southern California Region

Working closely with, and reporting to the Managing Director, Southern California, the Deputy Director will serve as a critical contributor in leading the Southern California regional office to fundraising success. The Deputy Director will manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects (100 to 150) with a giving capacity of $100,000+; identify, cultivate, and solicit new high net worth individuals for the major donor program; support regional board and committee development; support special events in the region; and help expand UNICEF USA's presence throughout Southern California.  


Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

  • Work with the Managing Director to grow major individual gifts throughout the region

  • Develop and implement effective strategies to steward and cultivate major donors

  • Meet monthly in-person major gift meeting and solicitation goals

  • Recruit and develop successful board and committee members, and implement related projects

  • Manage and support special event opportunities which support UNICEF USA's strategic plan as major donor cultivation and stewardship tools

  • Represent the Southern California region and speak at select events, as appropriate

  • Serve as lead for implementation of special projects and campaigns and perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven years of relevant major gifts experience required; advanced degree preferred 

  • Must have a proven success record in major gift fundraising securing 5- and 6-figure gifts as well    volunteer committee management

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills 

  • Excellent problem solving skills; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information

  • Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have strong experience using a fundraising database 

  • Keen attention to detail, flexibility in high-pressure situations and the willingness to assist with all tasks needed to ensure the success of small regional team

  • Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings

  • Must possess a strong work ethic, and be a motivated, enthusiastic team player who embraces a   fast pace environment as well as the mission and values of UNICEF USA 

  • Working knowledge of the Southern California philanthropic community is preferred 

  • Willingness to travel, domestic and international (occasional), and to work some evenings and/or weekends as necessary
