Food Pantry Coordinator

Position Description            

 

Position Title:          Food Pantry Coordinator            

Department:             Resident Services 

Classification:         Part-time (approximately 16 hours/week; Thursdays & Fridays)
Non-exempt

Supervisor:              Program Manager

Position Summary

Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (HCHC) is a non-profit developer of permanent, affordable housing serving low-income families, people living with HIV/AIDS and senior citizens. Under the direction of the Program Manager the Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for the operation and administration of an emergency food pantry and assisting with the Volunteer Program as it pertains to the food pantry operations. The Food Pantry Coordinator must have strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with HCHC staff, outside agencies and the public.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of the food pantry including: preparing and coordinating the food pantry schedule, checking inventory and ordering food, preparing the schedule of weekly pick-up and delivery of food, and reporting procedures.
  • Oversee the training, performance and scheduling of food pantry volunteers.
  • Work closely with other HCHC staff to enhance the volunteer base for the food pantry program.
  • Help to acquire donations of food and supplies for HCHC food pantry and special events.

 

Other Duties

  • Drive agency authorized vehicle as needed to help acquire donations of food, household supplies and other goods to aid HCHC residents to maintain their housing.
  • Assist with other projects and duties as needed.

Skills and Requirements of the Position

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to assess, maintain and implement Food Pantry program
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain good relationships with others including with members of the public
  • Able to articulate HCHC’s commitment to Trauma Informed Care including how publicly funded housing is a public health problem and how providing housing for low-income and special needs populations benefit the public both directly and indirectly.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance as required by law
  • Must be able to drive a cargo van or an approximate 20’ cube/box truck  
  • Must be able to unload, lift and push carts filled with bags and boxes of food, supplies and other donations weighing up to 40 pounds

 

Education and Experience

Requires High School degree or equivalent with 1 year of related experience

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide support to volunteer base to effectively maintain operations of Food Pantry program. Train new volunteers.

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires the use of office equipment, the ability to operate a cargo van or 20’ cube/box truck  and the ability to pick-up, load and push carts filled with bags and boxes of food, supplies and other donations, which may weigh up to 40 pounds.

 

Work Environment

The essential responsibilities of this position are performed in a busy indoor office environment as well as outdoors in obtaining and receiving donations from community organizations and agencies. The employee must be able to keep focused in an environment with interruptions and distractions.

 

Travel Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurance as required by law.
